Scientific Advisory Board
The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) was created to provide Nuvo's management with scientific,
medical and strategic advice on drug development plans and specific issues relating to its business.
Nuvo's SAB currently consists of Dr. Stefan Meuer, a German immunologist
who is chairman of the International Committee of the Federation of Clinical Immunology
Societies; Dr. Lee Simon, an American rheumatologist and Harvard Associate Professor, who
previously was a Director at the United States Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Rolf Zinkernagel,
a Swiss Nobel prize-winning immunologist and Dr. Jonathan Wilkin, a former Director of the FDAs Dermatology and Dental Products Department.
- Dr. Stefan Meuer, MD
Director, Institute of Immunology, University of Heidelberg
Chairman, International Committee of the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies
Dr. Meuer is currently a director of the Institute of Immunology at the University
Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany. He has a long and distinguished career in medical
research and has authored/co-authored over 150 publications in the field of immunology.
Dr. Meuer is a member of the German Scientific Council Committee, Medicine, Evaluation and
Quantification, chairman of the board, Bio-Region Rhein Neckar and chairman, International
Committee of the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies. He received his M.D. from
Johannes-Gutenberg-Universitat in Mainz, Germany.
- Dr. Lee S. Simon, MD
Former Division Director, Analgesic, Anti Inflammatory, & Ophthalmologic Drug Product Division, CDER, FDA
and Former Harvard Associate Professor of Medicine
Dr. Simon is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical
School and head regulatory consultant with MEDACorp, management consulting group
that offers strategic advice to leading life sciences and healthcare companies.
Previously, Dr. Simon was with the FDA where he was the Division Director of the Arthritis,
Analgesic and Ophthalmologic Drug Product Division.. Prior to his tenure at the FDA, Dr. Simon
was Director of Rheumatology Clinical Research and as Associate Chief of Medicine at Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. Dr. Simon attended Loyola College and received his medical
degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
- Dr. Rolf Zinkernagel, MD, PhD

Nobel Laureate in Medicine, 1996
Dr. Zinkernagel is recently retired professor, Department of Pathology at the University of Zurich and has been the
co-head of the Institute of Experimental Immunology in Zurich, Switzerland since 1992. Dr. Zinkernagel
is an internationally recognized immunologist who has received more than 25 awards for his work during
the past two decades, including the 1996 Nobel Prize in Medicine for discoveries concerning the specificity
of the cell mediated immune defense. He received a Ph.D. from the Australian National University and a medical
degree from the University of Basel in Switzerland.
- Dr. Jonathan Wilkin, MD,
Former Director of the FDAs Dermatology and Dental Products Division
Dr. Jonathan Wilkin is a pharmaceutical industry consultant and recently
retired founding director of the FDA's Dermatology and Dental Products
Division (March 1994 - Oct 2005). Prior to joining the FDA, Dr. Wilkin
served on FDA's Dermatologic Drugs Advisory Committee and was a Professor at
The Ohio State University in the Departments of Medicine and Pharmacology,
where he was the Director of the Dermatology Division. Currently, Dr. Wilkin
serves on the American Academy of Dermatology's Ad Hoc Task Force on the
Academy's Efforts with the FDA and the Environment and Drugs Committee; He
is a Member of the Board of the National Rosacea Society, and Chair of the
Medical Advisory Board of the National Rosacea Society; he is a diplomate of
both the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology and the American Board of
Dermatology.
