  • Daniel N. Chicoine, CA - Chairman
    Since 1982, Mr. Chicoine has held various positions at the Magna group of companies, including President and CEO of Atoma International Inc. While Mr. Chicoine was the CEO of Atoma, he succeeded in growing its business from $300 million per annum to $1 billion and effected a major restructuring. In May 1994, Mr. Chicoine formed Triam Automotive Inc., an automobile parts supplier, with other former executives of Magna and, in July 1994, was instrumental in assisting the company in completing an initial public offering. While at Triam, he acted as Vice Chairman in charge of sales. After leaving Triam in 1996, Mr. Chicoine, along with two other former executives of Magna, formed Nighthawk Investments, a small investment company. Mr. Chicoine has also served as the President of PowerCart Systems Inc., a Markham-based private company that designs and manufactures battery-equipped workstations that power devices with wireless communication capability. Mr. Chicoine is a chartered accountant by profession.


  • David A. Copeland, CA
    Former President and Chief Operating Officer, Triam Automotive Inc., an automobile parts supplier. Prior to Triam, Mr. Copeland was Chief Financial Officer of Magna International Inc. and President and Chief Operating Officer of the Cosma Group of Magna. He is currently an active investor in early stage companies. His background includes practicing as a chartered accountant and a focus on business valuation and mergers and acquisitions.


  • Anthony E. Dobranowski, CA, MBA
    Vice President, Magna International Inc., a global automotive parts
    supplier. Previously, Mr. Dobranowski held positions as Vice Chairman, President, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Tesma International Inc., a publicly traded Magna subsidiary. He was instrumental in the initial public offering of Tesma in 1995, and has been involved in all aspects of Tesma's growth, with particular emphasis on financing, investor relations and M&A activity. Previous to that, Mr. Dobranowski held various senior management positions with other Magna companies. Mr. Dobranowski holds an MBA from the University of Toronto and is also a chartered accountant.


  • Dr. Henrich R.K. Guntermann, MD, MSc
    President and CEO, Nuvo Research Inc. Dr. Guntermann has more than 10 years of experience in the life sciences sector (including business development, restructuring and corporate financing). With a group of distinguished life sciences entrepreneurs, he founded BioAlliance AG, a German-based life sciences private equity and consulting firm. BioAlliance was formed to capitalize on the early stage development of the life sciences industry in the European Union, by developing life sciences companies and leveraging their technologies and products worldwide. Through its established international network, it brings together life sciences companies in the United States, Asia and Europe to foster growth through alliances. In addition, BioAlliance consults for international life sciences companies (pharmaceutical, medical devices, diagnostics and agro-biotech) in different stages of development, including large scale players in the life sciences sector and public institutions, such as city and state governments, the European Commission and the United Nations Industry Development Organization (UNIDO). Dr. Guntermann received his medical doctorate at the Philipps-University in Marburg, Germany. He also received a Masters of Science in Biology, with specialization in pharmacology/toxicology and human genetics.


  • Dr. Klaus von Lindeiner, Dr end droit
    Private business consultant. Prior to his retirement in 2000, Mr. von Lindeiner served as a senior executive for various European multinationals, including Wacker-Chemie GmbH, Lurgi GmbH and Metallgesellschaft AG. Previously, Mr. von Lindeiner worked as a legal advisor to the United Nations, Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as in the Organizational Committee for the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. He has served as a member of the regional advisory boards of Deutsche Bank AG, Allianz Insurance AG, and Dresdner Bank AG. He has also served as a director on the boards of GEFIU, Power Paper Ltd. and OXO Chemie AG. Currently, Mr. von Lindeiner serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Golding Capital Partners. Mr. von Lindeiner is a lawyer by profession with a doctorate in international law from the University of Geneva/Switzerland.


  • John C. London, LLB, LLM – Secretary
    President and Chief Executive Officer, Powercart Systems Inc. Mr. London is also a partner in Nighthawk Investments, which currently has ownership positions in two private companies, including Powercart. Prior to establishing Nighthawk with his partners in 1997, Mr. London was co-founder and Executive Vice-President of Triam Automotive Inc., which eventually became public and was subsequently sold to Magna International Inc. From 1988 to 1993, he was Executive Vice-President and General Counsel at Atoma International Inc., Magna’s interior systems group. Prior to joining Magna, Mr. London was a partner with the Toronto law firm of Strathy, Archibald and Seagram (now Gowlings). Mr. London is a graduate of University of Western Ontario law school and holds a Masters of Law Degree from University College London.


  • Dr. Jacques Messier, DVM, MBA
    General Manager, The Semex Alliance, a partnership specializing in the development and marketing of high quality genetic technologies, products and services to benefit livestock producers around the world. Previously, Dr. Messier was involved in management consulting in a number of specialized assignments pulling from his experience from many different business sectors. From 1995 to 2001 Dr. Messier held various positions at Novopharm Ltd. a generic pharmaceutical company, including President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Messier was Chief Operating Officer of publicly-traded KV Pharmaceutical Company from 2001 to 2003. Dr. Messier has also held a variety of management positions with Agriculture Canada and Health Welfare, including the Director of the Bureau of Human Prescription Drugs. He started his career as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and practiced large animal medicine at his veterinary clinic in Saskatchewan for six years before joining Agriculture Canada. Dr. Messier also holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.

  • Jim Moulds, MAcc – Vice President, Finance & CFO
    Mr. Moulds is responsible for overseeing the Company's overall financial activities and brings over 10 years of public company experience.  Most recently he was the Senior Vice President, Finance for Tesma International Inc. (“Tesma”), a company listed on the TSX and NASDAQ, until it completed a “going private” transaction in 2005 and earlier had served in various capacities including Corporate Controller and Vice President, Finance and Treasurer.  Mr. Moulds played an integral role on the executive management team that took Tesma public in 1995, growing its sales from $344 million to $1.7 billion in 2005 with operations on 4 continents.  During Jim’s tenure he performed a key role in several public equity issues, debt financings, acquisitions and strategic planning. Prior to joining Tesma, Mr. Moulds worked in various financial capacities for Magna International Inc. and Ernst & Young LLP.  Mr. Moulds holds a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo, where he also earned his undergraduate degree.

  • Dan McKay, BSc, LLB - Vice President, Business Development and Intellectual Property
    Dan McKay joined Nuvo in the summer of 2005.  Prior to joining Nuvo, Mr. McKay was responsible for intellectual property, patents and life cycle management at Janssen-Ortho Inc. (Johnson & Johnson).   Previously, he worked at the Toronto-based law firms Bereskin & Parr and Gowling, Lafleur & Henderson.  His background includes experience in the areas of intellectual property, drug delivery, pricing, business development and federal affairs.  Mr. McKay has a Bachelor of Science, Molecular Biology from McGill University and is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School.

  • Grant Britchford, CA - Vice President, Financial Planning
    Grant Britchford joined Nuvo in October 2001 and is responsible for financial planning throughout the Nuvo group of companies. His more than 20 years of senior management experience includes a four-year term as manager, costs and budgets, with Novopharm, one of Canada's largest generic drug manufacturers. He has also worked with such leading corporations as American Standard and Canadian Pacific. An alumnus of Queen's University, Mr. Britchford holds a BComm with a post-graduate CA designation.

 

  • Dr. J. Zev Shainhouse, MD - Medical Director
    Dr. Shainhouse heads Nuvo's research and development program, in addition to maintaining a staff position in the Internal Medicine/Infectious Disease Department of Scarborough General Hospital. A graduate of the University of Toronto, Dr. Shainhouse is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Canadian Infectious Disease Society, and the Canadian Community and Hospital Infection Control Association.


  • Mimi Brennan, BSc, CIM - Director, Clinical Research and Regulatory Affairs
    Mimi Brennan joined Nuvo in September 2003 after more than 25 years in the pharmaceutical, medical devices and biotechnology industries with both start-up and established international organizations; 18 years in senior management roles and 12 years of worldwide experience in Regulatory Affairs dealing with the US FDA extensively, the Canadian TPP, the European Agencies and other countries. Her background also includes QC/QA/Manufacturing Operations, Research and Development, New Drug-Product Development, Clinical Trials, Technology Transfer and Compliance. She holds a CIM from the Canadian Institute of Management and a BSc from the University of Santo Thomas.

  • Jagat Singh, PhD, DIC – Director, Research and Development
    Dr. Singh joined Nuvo in November 1998. Previously, he worked in Academia where he was a Senior Lecturer, Department of Chemistry, University of Guyana and Sessional Professor, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Seneca College. Prior to teaching, Dr. Singh spent 11 years in the cosmetics industry and 8 years in the pharmaceutical industry. His experience includes QA/QC, Manufacturing, Formulation Development, Pre-Clinical Research, Clinical Trials, Regulatory Affairs and New Product Development. He holds a Ph.D. in Insecticide Chemistry from Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, England and a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Guyana.
