Synera

Synera® (lidocaine 70mg/tetracaine 70mg topical patch) is a topical patch that combines lidocaine, tetracaine and heat, using proprietary “Controlled Heat Assisted Drug Delivery” (CHADD) technology. The CHADD unit generates gentle heating of the skin and has been demonstrated in a well-controlled clinical trial to contribute to the efficacy of Synera.

Synera is approved in the United States to provide local dermal analgesia for superficial venous access and superficial dermatological procedures, such as excision, electrodessication, and shave biopsy of skin lesions. In Europe, this patch is named Rapydan™, and is approved for surface anaesthesia of normal intact skin in connection with needle puncture in adults and children from 3 years of age. It is also indicated in Europe for cases of superficial surgical procedures on normal intact skin in adults.

Synera resembles a small adhesive bandage in appearance and ease of application, and is applied to the skin before painful medical procedures such as venous access, blood draws, needle injections and minor dermatologic surgical procedures. Synera is applied for 20 to 30 minutes prior to venous access procedures and and for 30 minutes prior to superficial dermatological procedures.

Nuvo holds the sales and marketing rights for Synera in the United States, Canada, South America and some regions of Asia. In early February 2012, the Company announced the launch of Synera in the U.S. Nuvo will be directly marketing Synera to interventional pain doctors with a dedicated 21 person contract sales force. Nuvo believes that there is a significant opportunity for Synera to be used prior to subcutaneous injections for painful needle procedures such as knee drains, epidurals and a variety of nerve blocks. This new sales force will initially target a highly concentrated number of doctors and clinics that perform these painful procedures as a regular part of their practice.  U.S residents, please click here to read additional information regarding Synera.

Our partner, EuroCept BV, a Dutch-based pharmaceutical company, has the global sales and marketing rights in all other regions worldwide. Synera is sold in Europe under the name Rapydan®.
